Suvarnabhumi Airport, also known as Bangkok Airport is located in Samut Prakan, Thailand. Its name translates into ‘Golden Land’. It is one of the two international airports that serve Bangkok, Thailand. Other major cities served by Suvarnabhumi Airport include Bang Bo, Samut Prakan, Phra Pradaeng, and more. It is a public airport and is operated by the Airports of Thailand PCL. Several airlines use Suvarnabhumi Airport as their hub, these include Jet Asia Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thai Smile, and Thai Vietjet Air. It is also the hub for Thailand’s flag carrier – Thai Airways. It is also the focus city for international airlines Cathay Pacific and Emirates.

The airport was opened in 2006. It has the world’s tallest free-standing control tower. Suvarnabhumi Airport is ranked as one of the busiest airports in Asia and is the 17th busiest airport in the world. In 2017, it handled an estimated 60 million passengers. In addition to passenger flights, BKK is also a major cargo hub for the area. Its airport code BKK was inherited from Don Mueang after the old airport stopped catering to international commercial flights. It has two runways and can accommodate 64 flights per hour. Construction of a third runway was approved in 2019.
