Rio Branco: City of Rubbers, River, and the Amazon
Rio Branco’s name which literally translates as “White River” is situated on the banks of the Acre River. It is a charming city surrounded by lush nature thanks to its close proximity to the west part of the Amazon Forest. The city is also close to the borders of other South American countries such as Peru and Bolivia making it easily accessible for travelers, most especially backpackers. The Rio Branco International Airport (RBR) serves the city.
Best Time to Visit
Having a tropical monsoon climate, Rio Branco, Brazil has a short dry season and a lengthy wet season. It is best to visit when the rain is not falling between the months of May to August. Though Rio Branco hotels are more expensive and there are a lot of tourists coming during these months if you come otherwise, you will expect heavy downpour and thunderstorms even.

As a city established by rubber tappers, it is a must to visit the Rio Branco Rubber Museum to further understand the city’s long history. Taste the delectable Brazilian cuisine at Mercado Velho – a riverfront market where you can also buy cheap but cute souvenirs to bring back home. Check out and admire the 36 glass-stained windows of the Rio Branco Cathedral. Get to visit the Rio Branco Palace and take pictures.
