Pohang Airport – KPO Pohang
Pohang Airport (KPO) is a military airport in Pohang, South Korea situated in Gyeongsang Province operated by Korean Airports Corporation and the Republic of Korea Navy. This airport is also referred to as Pohang Airfield, which was originally developed during the era of the Japanese Imperial. In 1950, KPO-Pohang was recognized as a possible base for the operations of USAF.
In July of the same year, the Fifth Air Force ordered the construction of the base with improvements to the airfield including a runway extension. One month after, the Korean People’s Army attacked the airfield and the Korean Army troops infiltrated the airport. The USAF eventually designated Pohang Airfield as K-3.
