Gällivare LaplandAirport – GEV Airport
Gällivare Lapland Airport is a public airport operated by the Gällivare Municipality. It serves the areas of Gällivare and Malmberget and is located in Gällivare, Sweden. In 2009, the GEV airport went through an expansion project and has also since been rebranded.
Best Time to Visit
During the Second World War, the airport was used as a military airfield. The surviving airstrip was later on used for civilian flights in April 1971. In the years 1984 and 1994, the airstrip went through gradual extensions until it reached its current length of 5,610 feet. In 1989, the airstrip was also broadened to become 148 feet wide. Airlines Nordica, Amapola, and Regional Jet offer services to the airport. West Air Sweden offers cargo services. Routes from the airport take passengers to Stockholm. As of 2009, the airport was able to handle a total of 36,836 passengers and a total of 1,613 aircraft landings. Neighboring cities such as Jukkasjarvi, Kalixfors, and Nattavaara benefit from the airport services.
