Known as the eastern gateway to the nation's capital area, Tongzhou, China is one of the districts located in Beijing. The area is located 12 miles Beijing and near the northern end of the Grand Canal. The region was formed during the Western Han Dynasty in 195 BC and was dedicated as Lu County. It was renamed Tongzhou "the place for passing through" because of its major role in being the area that welcomes locals and tourists to Beijing. The Nanyuan Airport (NAY) and the Capital International Airport (PEK), both in Beijing serves the area.
