Yichang, China: Third Longest River On Its Midst
Surely, the longest river in Asia flows not yet to the sea but goes through Yichang, China. Like the Yellow River, this prefecture also has a reputation to uphold being the second largest city in the province of Hubei. It is not only home to the Three Gorges Dam but also to the Battle of Yiling way back in the Three Kingdoms era and the Battle of Zaoyang-Yinchang in 1940. While the metro where most of the locals have settled has an urban setting, the rest of the place has a rural setting like most prefecture cities accessible via the Yichang-Sanxia Airport.
Best Time to Visit
The place can easily turn into an oven with Wuhan labeled as a furnace city so travellers are advised to visit during Autumn or Spring. There is the Three Gorges International Tourism Festival in September featuring the Yangtze River Piano Music Festival and the Yichang Citrus Festival. Nonetheless, you can also try the Ice and Snow Festival.
