Wallaroo: Mineral Copper and the Sea
Not to be confused with the other town in New South Wales, this Wallaroo, Australia is located on the southern part of the country far away from the capital territory. It was a prominent mining port town in the past and was well-known for copper which eventually led to it becoming a part of the Copper Triangle. The town was previously called Walla Waroo until the local authorities just shortened it into Wallaroo.
Best Time to Visit
Wallaroo, South Australia, like the rest of the country, is busiest during the summer season that sometimes extends until the fall season. These are the times with expensive Wallaroo hotels and when the Wallaroo Blue Crab Festival takes place. Unbeknownst to many, the town is also ideal to visit during the middle of the year. Even though it is winter during the months of June to August and there might be occasional rain showers, the town can still be appreciated.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The Copper Cove Marina is one of the most scenic areas in Wallaroo. It boasts of a coastal view and along the shores are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops. It is the place to go if you want to chill on a lazy afternoon. Wallaroo Heritage and Nautical Museum is also an interesting site. Brush up your knowledge on the town’s maritime history. For swimming and other water-based activities, head on to Office Beach. There are plenty of choices for you to choose from on where to stay in Wallaroo. Some of them are oceanfront while others are in the central area where all the shops are. Sonbern Lodge Motel, Moonta Bay Motel, and Cornwall Hotel are three of the best hotels in town. They all serve good complimentary breakfasts. Other options include the Copper Coast Hotel and the nearby The Anglers Inn.
