Sivas Nuri Demirag Airport - VAS
Sivas Nuri Demirag Airport is a public airport located in Sivas, Turkey. It was opened in 1957 and is currently under the management of General Directorate of State Airports Authority. VAS Airport is located 1,591 meters above mean sea level. Located near the hills of the Merakum located in the northwest regions of Sivas, it is relatively built in a high location, far from the city. It was a perfect NATO base during its construction period. The airport is located close to the Sivas-Ankara highway (E-88) south of the D-200.

VAS-Sivas Nuri Demirag Airport was originally opened to accommodate military related flights during its opening in 1957. It was opened to passenger traffic after the construction of the 23,860 sq ft terminal building in 1990. This is also the same year when civilian air traffic was served in the area. Sivas Airport closed to air traffic in 2002 but soon opened after a cabinet decision in 2003. The airport is also home to the second longest runway in Turkey at 3,810 meters long in the 01/19 direction. Sivas is one of the best places to see close to the airport. The region is loved for its stunning architectural places as well as museums.
