Varna Airport – VAR
The Varna Airport is the third largest airport in Bulgaria. It is located 6.2 miles from the centre of Varna and serves Varna, Golden Sands, and Northeastern Bulgaria. The Varna Airport, whose airport code is VAR, dates back to 1916 when two sheds of hydro-port were constructed in the Peinerdzhik area which started the irregular mail service between Sofia and Varna. The service started from 1919 and ended in 1947 when a permanent airline was established between the two cities. It was the start of Varna Airport which is called Tihina Airport during that time. In 2016, the airport had served 1,689,585 passengers.
