Uttaradit: The Port In Thailand
Formerly called "Bang Pho Tha It" or the "modern" town, Utturadit, Thailand lies on the North of Thailand, bordering Laos. The province's name means "the Port of the North". This city is a natural and historical town that brings about the beauty of its history and environment. It contains the Queen Sirikit Dam, an artificial lake, and it is the home to the world's largest teak tree, which is roughly 1,500 years old. More than its environmental beauty, it is also a diverse culture-filled city.
Best Time to Visit
For the most perfect weather when in the city, it is ideal to visit during the months of December to February. However, these months are also the busiest months, which also means higher Uttaradit hotel rates. For better hotel deals and lesser tourists, the city is still ideally warm during March through May. To catch a traditional festival, the Phraya Phichai Dap Hak and Red Cross Fair is celebrated every second week of January.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The province offers so many attractions, both historical and natural. The Mae Phun Waterfall is about 12 miles from the town proper; it is a dam-like barrier that creates a cascading effect amidst naturally pleasant surroundings. An ancient site, the Bo Lek Nam Phi is the source of quality steel used for armory in the past. This site has two wells left in existence and is believed to be only used for kings only. For the most accessible and a very convenient stay in the province, Friday Hotel is a great deal. There is also the Baan Thip Hotel for the most exceptional services and accommodations while in the city.
