It was originally known as Busuanga Airport prior to its current name. Busuanga, its neighboring municipality is also among the main area served by the airport. USU-Francisco Reyes was named after the former Mayor of Coron who also donated the and that is currently being occupied by the current airport complex. This mayor was Francisco B. Reyes who served the town from 1936 to 1939.
