Originally named Thibodeauxville during the town’s incorporation in 1830, it was changed 3 years after as mandated by the current head of the region during that time, Governor E.D. Originally a refuge for the Acadian exiles during mid-1700s, the city easily became a place where history is valued a heritage is preserved. Home to several distinct landmarks and historical destinations - Laurel Valley Village, an old sugar plantation and The Rienzi Plantation, once built in honor for the Queen of Spain. Thibodaux, LA is also home to the Nicholls State University.
