Solapur Airport - SSE
Solapur Airport is a public airport located in Solapur, India. It serves the city of Solapur as well as the state of Maharashtra. Owned by the government, the airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India, a branch of the Ministry of Civil Aviation India. It sits at an elevation of 1,584 feet above mean sea level and works under the IATA Code SSE and the ICAO code VASL. Its coordinates are 17°37′30″N 75°56′10″E. Best Time to Visit
The Indian Defense Authorities built the airport in 1948 during the Police Action Operation on the state. After the operation, the airport was not maintained and it was not used. It was rebuilt and reopened in the 1980s. The Public Works Department maintains the reopened airport. Solapur Airport is able to handled larger aircrafts including Boeing 737s. It is also able to serve Airbus A319, Bombardier, and ATR 72. Because of the lack of space to expand, a new airport is planned for Solapur. It is to be constructed near Boramani Village, about 8 miles from the current facility. Cities, towns, villages, and suburbs found near the airport include Solapur, Sholapur, Akalkot, and Naldurg.
