Silverton: Conquering Back-Country Skiing and Snowboarding
Sitting interestingly between the San Juan Mountain passes, Red Mountain and Molas, Silverton is a favorite destination in Colorado for winter and snow activities. It has been a known destination even during its earlier years of establishment, mainly because of the mining opportunities in the region. At present, the Silverton outdoors offers several fun activities. These include backcountry camping, hiking, fishing and OHV trails. Situated in the Marion County, the region was originally called Milford that was later changed to Silver Creek. In 1855, the city officially became Silverton, CO.
