Sighnaghi, Georgia, with its name also spelled as Signagi, is a hilltop town with a panoramic view of the Alazani Valley. Despite being one of the country’s tiniest towns, it thrives off successfully on its tourism sector. People from all over the world come to visit the town for its rich wine production. From the Old Turkic word “Syganak” comes the name of the town which then translates into “shelter.” The town’s history can be traced back as ancient as the Paleolithic Age.

A distinct four seasons prevail over at Sighnaghi. With a close to Mediterranean climate, summers are hot while winters are cool in town. Occasionally, light to moderate rain showers are expected in-between spring and summer. For that reason, the most recommended time to visit the town is during fall season, between September and November. A visit to the lovely Bodbe Monastery is a must.
