From 1969 to 2011, it underwent several waves of expansion and the construction of new terminals, including an additional cargo terminal in 1981. The airport has also seen its share of accidents, including crashes in 1978, 2001, and 2012. As of 2018, the Santiago de Compostela Airport’s busiest domestic route was to Madrid, with passenger flux increasing by 9.13 percent since 2017. Three of the cities surrounding the airport are Cambados, Castrelo, and Oubina.
