Sarande: The Unofficial Capital of the Albanian Riviera
Located at the end of the Albanian Riviera, Sarande, Albania is well known for its interesting tale about the Monastery of 40 Saints atop a hill near the Lekuresi Castle. The church was built in honor of the 40 Christian legionaries who were put to death during religious persecutions in the year 320. The monastery is the one who dubbed the unofficial capital of the Riviera as ‘Sarande’ or ‘Saranda.’
