Sanmenxia: The City of the Three Gateways
Sanmenxia in Chinese translates to the “The Gorge of the Three Gateways”. With a name like that, it invites tourists into the area, plus the fact that it is a scenic city, located in the west of Henan Province. Sanmenxia, China is both a historical and scenic area. Scenic for its location at the south side of the Yellow River and historical as it contains the archeological site of the “Shihao Section of Xiaohan Ancient Road”, recognized by the UNESCO as part of the famous “Silk Roads”. The Luoyang Beijiao Airport is an hour away from Sanmenxia. Tourists can then reach the city by bus or bullet train.
Best Time to Visit
The best times to visit Sanmenxia are on the months of April to June or from August to October. During these times, the weather is most pleasant and visitors can get to explore much of the city’s outdoors, of which there are many.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The Yellow River is worth a visit as it is one of the longest rivers in China. When in Sanmenxia, it’s best to visit the Sanmenxia Dam Scenic Area on Yellow River and even learn about its history especially during the Cold War era. Relax and enjoy the sights at the Yinxing Park or for the more adventurous tourist, go on a ride at the Luo River Bamboo Raft Drifting. Relax at the end of the day at any of the Sanmenxia, China hotels, like the Royal Hotel International Sanmenxia, and the Jinjiang Inn Yuncheng Zhongyin Avenue.
