Arua Airport – RUA Arua
Strategically located 12 miles from the border of Uganda, Arua Airport, also known as Arua Airfield, is a public airport serving the city of Arua, Uganda. The airport is one of the 47th airports serving the country. In fact, Arua Airport, with its IATA code of RUA, is the second-busiest domestic airport in the country, after Entebbe International Airport. This is due to the airport's strategic location, which is between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan. RUA Airport became an important center serving both passengers and cargo aircraft.
Best Time to Visit
The Civil Aviation Authority of Uganda has announced its plans to upgrade the facilities and services of Arua Airport in 2009. The upgrade is deemed necessary to cater to the needs of both domestic and international passengers. It will also enable the airport to accommodate up to 200 passengers in the terminal and the extension of runways will allow bigger aircraft to land. However, due to a compensation dispute with the landowners, the plans are put on hold. Currently, the airport is serving one commercial airline, Eagle Air and a charter airline MAF Uganda. Passengers that are traveling to Arua can check the online schedule of Eagle Air before booking their tickets and arrange for local transport.
