Rissani: An Oasis in A Saharan Surrounding
The town of Rissani is located in Errachidia Province, Eastern Morocco. It is near Erg Chebbi, the largest sand desert in the country. It served as the ancient capital of Tafilalet and due to its location as a crossroads between north and south, it was considered an important caravan center in the past. At present, it is regarded as a major commercial center in the region with its large souks.
Best Time to Visit
Rissani has ideal weather between mid-March and end of May as well as from September to November. Notwithstanding, tourists pack into town in January, February and May to sightsee and shop in its fabulous bazaars so prices for hotels are at a premium during these months. Rissani gets its fair share of tourist arrivals when the neighboring town of Erfoud holds the Erfoud Date Festival in early October. Those interested in attending this carnival should book early to avoid costly Rissani hotel fees.
