Some historical citations also claims that the city was also named Hildreth, this time after the family who ran a local store in the region. Rio Grande, the current name of the city was a suggestion by Aaron Leaming, one of the early settlers in the region and was adapted by the city up to this day. Cape May Airport is located in the region as well as the Hawk Haven Vineyard and Winery.
