Sri Sathya Sai Airport, also known as Puttaparthi Airport, is a small airport located in Puttaparthi, India. It serves the city and the state that surrounds it – Andhra Pradesh. This airport is named after spiritual guru and Philanthropist Sathya Sai Baba. The public airport is owned by the local government and is operated by the local civil aviation authority. Working under the IATA code PUT and the ICAO code VOPN, it sits at an elevation of 1,558 feet above mean sea level. Its coordinates are 14°08′57″N 077°47′28″E. Inaugurated in 1990, this small airport was not intended to handle commercial flights. Instead, it was created to serve the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences. It started with a shorter airstrip, which was later extended to accommodate larger aircrafts. The airport mainly accepts chartered and private flights. In the late 2010s, the airport was set to begin accepting regular scheduled commercial flights via Supreme Airlines. Plans have been put on hold due to pilot shortage.
