Ouagadougou: The Center City
Burkina Faso's capital, Ouagadougou is the largest and most important city of the country. Its name is usually shortened to "Ouga" and the inhabitants are called 'Ouagalais'. The city grows on its food processing and textile industry. They city is an industrial center for its many industrial facilities and factories. It is also an important commercial center where goods are collected and distributed to rural areas. Ouagadougou Airport (OAU) is the main airport and is situated at the center of the city.
Best Time to Visit
For ideal weather to explore Ouga, the months of July, December, and May are great times to visit. However, these are also the busiest seasons and have higher Ouagadougou hotel rates and airfares. June, on the other hand, also has good weather and affordable rates which is fine for a visit.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Aside from the Ouga's industrial places, it also has traditional and cultural practices. The Moro-Naba Palace is the place where the Moro-Naba Ceremony takes place. It is a weekly ritual where the Moro-Naba and Mossi leaders perform the ceremony. Visitors and travellers are welcome to see and take pictures of the ceremony. The National Museum of Music displays one of a kind instrument that ranges from five to two hundred years old, from different instrument families. Another museum in the city is the National Museum of Burkina Faso, which exhibits masks, ancestral statues, and traditional costumes of the country's ethnic groups.
