Mount Vernon Outland Airport or MVN is located 2.5 miles east of Mount Vernon, IL. It’s named after the area it primarily serves with the “Outland” taken from a longtime board member of the airport, Earl Outland. As of this writing, the facility has no scheduled airline. It was mostly active during the 1960s all through the 1980s with scheduled flights with the Ozark Airlines. It was also served by Air Kentucky operating as the US Airways Express.
Best Time to Visit
The airport is built with two runways, both made of asphalt. It covers around 1,100 acres of space and is operated by the Mount Vernon Airport Authority. It’s the main jump off area to the city of Mount Vernon with its many cultural and artistic attractions. Perhaps one of the most popular spots visited near the area is Rend Lake which has around 19,000 acres of water and is mostly used for fishing, camping, and boating activities. The varied community parks in the city are also a hit while others prefer to set up camps close to the lake.
