Makoua Airport – MKJ Makoua, Republic of the Congo (MKJ)
The Makoua Airport is a domestic and public airfield that was constructed to serve the needs of Makoua in the Cuvette Department of the Republic of the Congo (also known as Congo-Brazzaville). It is situated more than 14 kilometers from the town, a far-flung area close to the rainforest. It is in the central part of the country. Because of its location, the airport has a very limited service. Its IATA airport code is MKJ.
Best Time to Visit
The MKJ-Makoua Airport’s runway is basically just a strip of gravel while the whole area that serves as airport barely has the infrastructure. There are currently no available data on flight details as the area is among the many uncharted places in Cuvette department. Other online resources however do not include or mention the Makoua Airport in its list of airports in Congo-Brazzaville hence there is the possibility that the particular airport has already ceased its operations.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Unlike other more cosmopolitan destinations in Congo which are near airports, Makoua has a dearth when it comes to providing accommodations. The town does not have hotels, hostels, inn or even lodgings open to travelers. Those traveling through the airport have the option of renting from private homes. However, in the nearby town of Kinshasa are posh hotel accommodations like the Beatrice Hotel and the Grand Hotel De Kinshasa.
