Matale: A Culture-Filled City
Matale, Sri Lanka is the capital and largest city in the Matale District of the Central Province. Its name is usually written as “Mathale”. The city is surrounded by mountain ranges and is mainly consists of agricultural areas where tea, rubber, vegetables, and spice cultivation are produced. Historically, the city of Matale is a site of a major battle in 1848 where the Matale Rebellion took place, placing the British soldiers under siege.
