Eduardo Gomes International Airport – MAO
Known as the Manaus International Airport – Eduardo Gomes, Eduardo Gomes International Airport is a public international airport found in Manaus, Brazil. It serves the metropolitan area of Manaus, along with nearby towns. The airport, whose IATA code is MAO, is also considered as the primary airport of Northern Brazil, making it the busiest one in the region in terms of passenger traffic and the third-busiest in Brazil in terms of cargo transport. MAO is named in honor of Air Marshal Eduardo Gomes, a Brazilian politician and military personnel.
Best Time to Visit
MAO-Eduardo Gomes International Airport was constructed in 1972 and officially opened in 1976. There are two passenger terminal buildings in the airport, with Terminal 1 serving domestic and international flights and Terminal 2 serving general aviation and regional flights. In August 2009, MAO underwent several renovations in preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil. Although the construction was not fully completed by the start of the World Cup, the airport activities went on as usual. Over 11 airlines landing in MAO connect various destinations across the US and South America. You can easily reach the towns of Tupana, Presidente Figueiredo, and Rio Preto da Eva from Manaus International Airport.
