Maha Sarakham: A University Town in Southeastern Thailand
A city that serves as the capital of the province of the same name, Maha Sarakham, Thailand is a town mostly known for its thriving rice production. It is also the region’s educational center and has been dubbed as the “Taxila of Isan.” There are a total of six colleges in the city, along with two universities and a couple of hotels and apartments.
Best Time to Visit
Maha Sarakham hosts an annual Bun Boek Fa Fair and Red Cross Fair, which is dedicated to thanking the goddess of rice during the early part of the harvest season. This is typically held in February, during which the tourist population in the area is at its peak. In return, most of Maha Sarakham, Thailand hotels are packed and expensive, so make sure to plan your trips accordingly. On the other hand, exploring the city in the fall, particularly in September, will reward you with less crowded streets and cheaper transportation and rooms.
What to Do & Area Attractions
While you’re visiting Maha Sarakham, you can find the Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University and the Wat Wang Nam Yen. You can also enjoy beating the heat at the Pooh Paeng Water Park. When visiting the water park, book your suites at the Yourplace Hotel Mahasarakham, located within a 15-minute walk. The three-star hotel has an in-hour restaurant, which serves breakfast to the guests at an affordable price. Another three-star hotel in the area, Praiyanan Place Hotel, is located roughly five miles from the university.
