Lappeenranta Airport is an international airport located in Lappeenranta, Finland and is assigned an airport code of LPP. This public airport is operated by Lappeenrannan Lentoasema Oy and is 1.5 miles southwest from the city center. Lappeenranta Airport opened in 1918 and is recognized as the oldest airport in Finland that is still operational.
From 1939 to 1944, LPP-Lappeenranta Airport functioned primarily as a military base during World War II. Meanwhile, passenger service only began in 1951. Nine years later, the renovation of the airport terminal was finally completed and in 2014, LPP ranked number 72 on the list of the biggest airports in the Nordic countries.
