L'Ile-Rousse: Welcome to the Charming Seaside Town
The commune ofL'Ile-Rousse is located on the island of Corsica in the Haute-Corse department of France. The town was initially known as Isola Rossa from the ochre color of a rocky islet that set out as a natural harbor. It is one of the only two communes that have a French name because all the others have remained using their Italian names in spite of the repeated commands of Corsican nationalists. The beautiful town has a share in the past of Corsica. Its refutations make it an appealing and unpredicted place for visitors.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit is during spring from March to May and summer from June to August because the weather is comfortably warm. It is also two of the busiest season, so prices for hotels and flights will most likely be high during these months. So the key is to plan and book in advance to grab some great deals. You will arrive at L'Ile-Rousse either at Sainte-Catherine Airport (CLY), which is 17km away or at Poretta Airport (BIA) with a distance of 45km. You can stay at Hotel Casa Rossa, which is just a few minutes away from the town center and the beach.
What to Do & Area Attractions
L'Ile-Rousse Corsica is a welcoming seaside town with a great laid-back vibe. Stroll around town and visit the main island with the lighthouse, which is Ile de La Pietra. You have to pave your way to the top, no need to worry since it is not a challenging walk uphill. If you are not into walking, then you can ride on the touristic train taking off from the city center. Along the way, while enjoying the beautiful views of rock formations, you will then reach the lighthouse known as Phare de la Pietra. The best part of it is the view of the town, the mountains, and the sea. Another good option for accommodation is Best Western Plus Santa Maria. The rooms have balconies plus it has its private beach.
