Lens: They Always Say to Look Through It
Nearby Belgium’s border, Lens, France is one of the main towns of Hauts-de-France. Not only is the town well-known for its rich coal mining history, it was also once a fortress town and is close to sites of a long list of World War I historical battles. It is also popular to the football industry. Now, Lens is a peaceful community with tourism and business as its main industries.
Best Time to Visit
Lens, France feels cold for most of the year with little to moderate rain showers on some months. It is ideal to visit between April to June when there are fewer visitors in town and the weather is relatively warm with little chance of rain. Lens hotels are also less expensive during these months.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The famous Louvre museum in Paris has an extension over at Lens called the Louvre-Lens Museum. This will definitely delight art enthusiasts. The Bollaert-Deleis Stadium is an attraction that kills two birds with one stone. It was a former mining site and now is home to the Racing-Club de Lens football team. It is also where a few football and rugby cups where held during the late 1900s to early 2000s. Nearby you can also check out the Canadian National Vimy Memorial – a memorial site for those who befell during the First World War.
