Strategically situated 3.1 miles western area of downtown Kalmar, Sweden, Kalmar Airport is a public airport that is operated by Kalmar Municipality. The airport serves domestic and international flights and has an IATA code of KLR. The airport is locally known as Kalmar Oland Airport. The airport has regular flight schedules via BRA Braathens Regional Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines as well as seasonal schedules through Aegean Airlines, Jet Time, and Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia. Kalmar Airport also receives an average of 1 to 2 international flights a week usually by charter planes.

Kalmar Airport used to be the home of Kalmar Air Force Wing (F 12). By 1957, the airport was then registered as a commercial airport serving the residents of Kalmar as well as its neighboring cities, such as Borgehage, Borgholm, and Halltorp. With the growing number of passengers, the airport was renovated to accommodate both domestic and foreign travelers. In fact, as of 2017, the airport has received a total number of 249,068 passengers, which has 211,173 domestic travelers and 37,895 foreign travelers. The airport is fully equipped with modern services, such as free Wi-Fi, duty-free, restaurants, car rental booths, and parking spaces.
