Kolhapur Airport – KLH Kolhapur
Kolhapur Airport with code KLH is located in Kolhapur, India. Airports Authority of India is currently the one operating this airport. They are currently planning to upgrade the facility. The major upgrade includes the renovation of the airport’s runway that is capable of handling big aircraft like Boeing 737. Aside from the runway, they have plans of upgrading the equipment of the airfield like installing night landing gear. To reduce the congestion of nearby airports, they are also planning to build aircraft parking. This will be possible when the government will acquire adjoining land that will add 223 hectares.
Best Time to Visit
The airport was opened in 1939. At first, it was only serving the prince of Kolhapur. He has offered a subsidy in order to build a complete airport facility in the city. The new airport was inaugurated in 1987. For years, it was operated by a private company until it was turned over to the government in 2012. In 2010, the airport was closed due to repairs but it was opened again after a day. During peak hours, the airport can handle 300 passengers.
