Kitale: A Town of Agriculture Close to the Border of Uganda
The municipality of Kitale, Kenya, mostly relies on agriculture for a living. It is nestled between the Cherangany Hills and Mount Elgon and sits at an elevation of 6,200 feet. A local airport serves Kitale, the Kitale Airport (KTL), which connects the city to the neighboring Wilson Airport in Nairobi.
Best Time to Visit
Every December, Kitale hosts the Kitale Color Festival, a community event where youths are encouraged to share their talent and learn the basics of business. This month is among the slowest for tourism in the city, so expect cheaper and discounted Kitale, Kenya hotels. Most tourists prefer to visit the town in the summer and fall, during which temperatures are comfortable enough.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Kitale is home to the Treasures of Africa Museum, a private museum housing a personal collection of a local ex-colonial officer from Uganda. A quick drive away from the museum is the Kitale Showgrounds and Kitale Golf Club, where you can enjoy the remainder of your afternoon.
