IXA-Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport dates back to 1942 when it was designed and built by the Maharaja of Tripura named Bir Bikram KishoraManikya Bahadur Debbarman, hence the name of the airport. The airport has only one runway measuring 7,500 feet long and has an asphalt surface. During the Second World War, the airport was used for the United States Army. Later on, it would experience its first international flight operations when Indian Airlines first offered the service. As of 2018-2019, the airport has handled a total of 1,441,089 passengers and a total of 10,130 aircraft operations. Neighboring areas such as Teliamura, Bishalgarh, and Khowai use the services offered by the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.
