Painushima Ishigaki Airport – ISG Ishigaki
Painushima Ishigaki Airport or also called New Ishigaki Airport is a regional public-used airport situated in the eastern part of Ishigaki Island, Okinawa, Japan. It has an IATA assigned airport code of ISG that serves as the primary airport handling the aviation needs of the whole island of Ishigaki and its nearby cities of Fukai, Hirakubo, Ibaruma, Miyara and Tozato. The airport was constructed and has started its operations on March 2013 in replacement of Ishigaki Airport that has a smaller runway and can’t handle bigger jet planes.

Painushima Ishigaki Airport has a total land area of 143 hectares with one designated 2/44 asphalt/concrete runway measuring 2,000 meters. The airport has a sole 4-storey terminal building with a total area of 12,500 square meters. As of 2016, New Ishigaki Airport as boarded nearly 2.5 million passengers, has loaded a total of 18,700 metric tons of cargo shipment and 24,834 aircraft operations. The airport’s flight service is being handled by nine airline companies to 20 regional destinations. New Ishigaki Airport operates 11 hours a day with connecting air bus and taxi from the airport to the island city proper.

There are no nearby hotels from the airport, one must drive roughly within a 5-mile radius to find the nearest hotels, which include Intercontinental Ana Ishigaki Resort, Shiraho Friends House and Okinawa Exes Ishigakijima. The Intercontinental Ana Ishigaki Resort is a 4-star resort, which gives optimum relaxation to its guest offering beautiful view of the turquoise color of the Maesato Beach.
Hateruma Airport (HTR) and Tarama Airport (TRA) is the closest island airports from New Ishigaki Airport.
