Isaac Butt Heritage Centre in Cloghan, Ireland is centered on the political career and life of Isaac Butt, a national parliamentarian. Inaugurated in 1998, it also showcases exhibits on local heritage and history. One of its most popular displays is that of the local schooling history.
There are many fun things to do in the area, such as visiting Birr Castle in Birr. Currently the home of the seventh Earl of Rosse, its residential areas are not open to the public, but the gardens and grounds are. One of the main features on the grounds is the Great Telescope or Leviathan of Parsonstown or The Rosse Telescope of the third Earl of Rosse, an astronomical telescope with a 183-cm reflector. Tourists should also visit Leap Castle in Coolderry. Established by the O’Bannon clan, it was originally known as “Leim Ui Bhanain”. Sean Ryan and his wife have been in-charge of its restoration since they acquired it in 1991. Another interesting site to visit in the area is Clara Bog. One of the biggest intact raised bogs still existing in the country today, most of it is managed as a nature reserve. It was declared a Ramsar Site in 1998. One of the most affordable hotels nearby is Dergfield House B&B in Ballybofey. It features a garden and shared lounge. Another renowned hotel nearby is Jackson’s Hotel & Leisure Centre. Garden Restaurant, its own restaurant onsite, offers an a la carte menu. A wide range of liquors and wines is also available at its bars onsite, Fara’s Bar and The Thirsty Trout.
