Best Time to Visit
While Hannover Airport mainly serves Hannover City, it also attends to other surrounding areas including Harenberg, Klein Lobke, and Peine to name a few. In 2018, HAJ-Hannover served over six million passengers coming in and out of the airport. This airport was opened in 1952, which replaced an old nearby airfield. In 1973, HAJ opened two new terminals with a unique and modern design.
The terminal design became the inspiration for Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport. In 1998, another terminal was added to accommodate more passengers. For many years, HAJ was the venue of the biggest air show, Internationale Luft und Raumfahrtausstellung before it was transferred to Berlin.
