Golden Triangle Regional Airport – GTR Columbus
Between Starkville, Columbus and West Point, Mississippi lies the Golden Triangle Regional Airport. It is the gateway to the Golden Triangle region of Mississippi and parts of West Alabama. It was founded on 1971 with the partnership of the cities of Columbus, Starkville and West Point. The commercial airport is also used for military aviation and charter aircrafts. Golden Triangle Regional Airport has a land area of 405 hectares with one asphalt runway. It is a relatively small and simple airport serving flights to Atlanta. Since 2003, it has continuously invested in infrastructure improvements as it has projected growth and influx of passengers. Part of its improvement is the air traffic control tower for the maintenance of the flying operation’s safety. Its runway was also revamped to welcome a Boeing 757 aircraft with two additional parking ramps.
