Frontera: A Destination for Outdoor Lovers
The municipality of Frontera, Spain can be found in the northwestern part of the island El Hierro, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands. What makes this place extraordinarily unique is its sky-high natural wall separating it from the rest of the island. It is primarily an agriculture-based town that cultivates fruit trees, vines and, more recently, tropical pineapples.
Best Time to Visit
The best times to visit the Frontera are between March and May. September to November is also an ideal period. The winter and summer seasons bring in loads of tourists which means that Frontera, ES hotels are jam-packed and more expensive than in other months. The town’s Arts and Crafts Market has been a popular crowd-drawer for its top-quality handicrafts and food products. It is a Sunday staple in town and this draws in locals as well as tourists coming from other nearby towns.
What to Do & Area Attractions
While in town, don’t forget to go to Bascos Viewpoint in the north of the island of El Hierro where you can get a good view of all of El Golfo Valley. The Charco de Los Sargos and Verodal Beach are delightful beaches to head to for some fun in the sea and sand. The Hotel Puntagrande is a casual hotel amidst the Atlantic Ocean and is a fine place to stay while in the area. Other good choices are the Parador de El Hierro situated between a mountain range and a beach and the 3-star Hotel Balneario Pozo la Salud in the neighboring town of Sabinosa. Other options include the Parador de el Hierro and the Casas Rurales Herrenas, which are both less than 10 miles away.
