Dan Sai: A Self Drive Holiday in Thailand
The innocuous quiet small town of Dan Saiis positioned in the scenic hills of the west part of Loei Province, which is northeastern of Thailand. It has a unique annual celebration called Phi Ta Khon or most commonly known as the Festival of Ghost Mask. The event lures people not only from other parts of Thailand but several tourists as well.
Best Time to Visit
You can grab the best deals, especially when you book in August, which is also a pretty good time to avoid the crowd. The month of June and July has comfortable and warm weather as well and the busiest time for tourism, primarily that the festival is held during this time. The Phi Ta Khon Festivalis the biggest feature to the farming village of Dan Sai. If you want to be near the festival area, the closest place to book accommodations is the Phunacome Resort, which is located in the outskirts of town and is near to sights the city has that can be explored by bicycle. What to Do & Area Attractions
Visit the Wat Neramit Wipattasana, which is a magnificent temple where the grand entrance gate welcomes you, and walls surrounding the temple complex, all set in an impressive garden. Of course, a tour to the Phi Ta Khon Dan Sai Museum is a must. The museum not only exhibits a number of masks but also explains the preparation and what the celebration is.
