Shymkent International Airport in Shymkent, Kazakhstan is a major airport that serves the region and the nearby towns and areas in the South Kazakhstan Province. It was originally an agricultural airbase back in 1932 during its conception. It started operating as a public airport for passengers and cargo traffic in 1933. By 1963, it was relocated to its current location in Shymkent and had its terminal and runway completed in 1967. One of its highest passenger traffic records was back in 2014 when it served over 440,000 passengers.

The Atlas Air serves cargo flights from the airport to Reyjavik-Keflavic. In 2017, the airport had a record high of 520,000 passengers traffic after several improvements in the airport terminal and its facilities. Shymkent is the nearest town to the airport. You can head to the region to explore the museums, parks and gardens as well as the zoo in the area.
