Brawley: Home of the Famous Red Painted Road of Adventure
Initially known as Braly, Brawley is located within the Imperial County at the Imperial Valley at the Southern region of California. Interestingly, this region is part of a circular released by the American government in 1902 stating that nothing will be grown in this area, even with plenty of water to support agriculture or vegetation. The region had to change its name as an appeal by J.H. Braly. This man had water stocks and 4000 acres of land located in present day Brawley, CA. However, he did not want his name connected to the city, thus changing Braly to Brawley. The town was incorporated in February 1908.
