Flesland Airport – BGO
Commonly called Bergen Airport, Flesland Airport is an international airport found in the village of Flesland in Bergen, Norway. It serves the city of Bergen and is known as the second busiest airport in the country. The airport also housed the Flesland Air Station up until 1999. Before the construction of BGO-Flesland Airport, flights to the city were via the water aerodromes located at Herdla, Flatoy, and Sandviken. It was only until October 1955 when the Bergen Airport was finally opened after enough funds were secured through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Best Time to Visit
The airport’s planning activities started in the 1930s when the target location was Herdla. However, after major considerations, the final site was settled to be at Flesland, and the construction finally began in early 1953. During the first 12 months of the airport’s operation, it handled a total of 70,000 passengers and increased to over 100,000 the following year. But it wasn’t until 1958 when the new terminal building was opened. The current terminal now covers 21,000 square meters and handles over 6.3 million passengers annually. BGO connects to 63 regular destinations and 26 charter destinations. You can easily reach Kokstad and Sandsli through the BGO airport.
