Beaufort: A Green Summer and A White Winter
Commonly known as Beaufort-sur-Doron is the enchanting and historic town of Beaufort, France. It is part of the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region so you know that the natural beauty of the town is something to marvel at. The town has been called many names in the past, including Saint-Maxime and Castellania Bellifortis. Its present name came about from Beaufort cheese, produced in Beaufortain.
Best Time to Visit
Beaufort is more often visited during the winter as it is in the ski region and is close to many ski resorts. Despite this, the town is a year-round destination. You can enjoy the green pastures if you come around summer. If you want to score cheaper Beaufort FR hotels though, avoid the peak tourism season during summer and winter. Watch out for the live Folk Festival Areches that takes place August annually.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Being in the ski region as aforementioned, ski lifts such as Bonnets Rouge Ski Lift and Grand Mont Ski Lift are two of the popular points of interest in Beaufort especially during winter. If you happen not to come around that season, pay a visit to the Castle of The Great Hall which has long stood in town since the 11th century. Try some of the famous Beaufort cheese as well found at one of the cheese shops nearby Lake Roselend. La Ferme du Chozal is a 4-star hotel, spa, and restaurant complex sitting at the foot of the Alpes. It is one of the highly-rated hotels in Beaufort. On the other hand, there is also the CGH Résidences & Spas Le Hameau du Beaufortain, just walking distance from the ski lifts.
