Aurel Vlaicu International Airport – BBU Airport
Aurel Vlaicu International Airport is more commonly known as Băneasa Airport or the Bucharest City Airport. The airport is located in Băneasa district, in Bucharest, Romania. It is named after the Romanian engineer, airplane constructor, inventor, and early pilot. It was also the city’s only airport until the year 1969. In 2011, the airport handled as many as 2,398,911 passengers.

BBU Airport is the oldest continuously operating airport in the whole of Eastern Europe and one among five of the oldest airports in the world. The first flight in Băneasa was as early as 1909 and a flight school opened in 1912. The current terminal of the airport was designed in the late 1940s and opened in 1952. At the time of opening, it was one of the finest architectural pieces of work in the city of Bucharest. Renovations took place in 2007 that cost around €20million. Recent announcements have been made that in spring of 2020, the airport will reopen after renovation works was again started in 2017 and 2018. The cities of Dobroesti and Lipscani are some that find BBP their airport of choice.
