Barrancabermeja: Beef Capital of Colombia
Barrancabermeja, Colombia is part of Santander Region. It is in the northern central part of the country right on the banks of Magdalena River. At first, the land is inhabited by India settlement. Spanish Conquistador Gonzalo Jimenez de Quezada discovered the area. They have named the town as Barrancas-Bermejas or the reddish cliffs. This is after the nearby river areas. The town has become a ranching town and center for beef production. The nearest airport is the Yariguies Aiport (EJA) which is about 6 miles away. Another airport is Palonegro International Airport (BGA) which is about 2 hours away.

The most famous event happening in town is Fiesta del Petróleo. Based on tourist ratings, the best time to visit the town is between December and February. It is considered a hot weather season.
