Aurland: A City of Beaches, Mountains, Marinas and More
Aurland is a municipality that belongs to the District of Sogn in Vestland County. Its name was taken after two Old Germanic words, aurr (gravel) and land. The city’s history dates back 2000 years ago when its first inhabitants used the land for farming. Aurland became a municipality in 1838. Although an old town, it has many great offers to tourists, from natural sights to modern attractions. The Sogndal Airport (SOG) is the closest airport to the city.
Best Time to Visit
Most months in Aurland experience rain. If you are in the city to explore the sights and attractions, then it is best to get an Aurland hotel during June, July, and August. July and August have the days with the most pleasant weather, but hotels may be more expensive in July, the peak season.
