Alto: The Humble Heart of the South
Alto, Texas is located in the northeastern area of the state, in Cherokee County. Historically, the town played a major role in the Cordova Rebellion, where it served as a major military supply base for Texan General Thomas J. Rusk. Alto, Texas is a small and humble town where the cost of living is 26 percent lower than the rest of the U.S. Though a bit of a drive away, the nearest airport to Alto is the Tyler Pounds Regional Airport.

The summer heat in Alto can get very intense. The best time to visit the town is toward the middle to tail end of summer season, from April to early June, when the temperature is at a good balance between the welcome heat and the oncoming rainy season. The average tourism comfort index also puts September to October as a good time to stay at the town. This period is also the best time to catch the Alto Annual Fall Festival.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Located six miles outside of Alto, TX is the Caddo Mounds State Historical Site by the Neches River. The Mound Builders of Caddo built this sacred ceremonial mound. Alto is also home to several homey diners, including Miss Mollie’s Diner, which locals love for their traditional Southern meals. For Alto accommodations, guests can stay at the secluded Pine Creek County Inn, only 30 minutes away from Alto. Another option is the Weston Inn & Suites in Rusk, 13 minutes away from Alto.
