Ziyang, Exploring the Heart of Sichuan Province
Ziyang, China, located in the province of Sichuan, is a prefecture-level city with no less than 4.9 million residents in its urban area alone. It stands at about 54 miles southeast of Chengdu, the province’s capital. Ziyang’s name was derived from its proximity to the then Zishui River, which is now the Tuojiang River that flows through the city. Majority of Ziyang’s landscape is hilly with only 10% plain areas. Early settlers in the area date back to around 35,000 years ago which was proven by the Ziyang Man fossil found within the city in 1951. Today, the city is thriving in tourism, marked by the rise of hotels and accommodations available in the city.
Best Time to Visit
Ziyang is marked with pleasant weather for the majority of the year, although winters can be too cold for outdoor activities. Spring promises sunny skies and vibrant festivities, especially in May when they celebrate their Dragon Boat Festival. However, spring is also the busiest season for tourism in the area, so expect most of the Ziyang, China hotels to be expensive. Tourist population decreases come June.
